Maggie Scherf is a self-taught artist, born and raised near Montreal in Valleyfield, Quebec. When she moved to Vancouver, British Columbia in 1973, she immediately fell in love with the beauty of the West Coast.  The lush vegetation, colourful flowers, and breath-taking ocean and mountains soon inspired her to develop a more serious interest in photography.  Eventually, her passion for photography led to her passion for painting.  Maggie has been painting since 1995, and the bold shapes and vibrant colours of her abstract works are primarily inspired by her love of nature and travelling.

Maggie began her university studies at Loyola College in Montreal and completed them at UBC in Vancouver.  During her undergrad years, she studied Modern Languages, and also took several Fine Art courses.  After graduating from UBC with a B.A. and a B.Ed., Maggie turned her attention to the business world where she spent several years as owner and manager of Vancouver's Bullfrog Recording Studios.  She now tutors English privately, and in 2007 successfully completed her TESOL Diploma from Vancouver Community College.

Maggie resides in Vancouver, B.C. and has been a member of Artists in our Midst since 2003.
